On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the Royston Runners showed incredible grit and determination as they took on the 45th edition of the London Marathon as well as the Manchester Marathon and the virtual London Marathon under some of the hottest conditions in the event’s history. With temperatures soaring to around 22°C (72°F), the marathon was a true test of endurance and resilience – and the Royston team absolutely smashed it.

Despite the heat, which challenged many participants throughout the 26.2-mile course, we are so proud of every Royston Runner who crossed the finish line with pride, a sense of achievement that reflected months of hard training and unwavering commitment and even a PB or two. Their perseverance was inspiring, especially as they navigated the iconic London landmarks cheered on by thousands of enthusiastic spectators lining the streets, including many a familiar Royston Runner who became the official cheer squad for the day.

The Royston Runners’ success is a testament not only to their physical fitness but also to the strong community spirit and mutual support. Many ran to raise funds for noble causes, adding extra motivation to their already impressive efforts. The club’s ethos of encouragement and camaraderie shone through as teammates cheered each other on, pushing through the tough heat and fatigue together, and the much-needed support squad carried many a runner through that wall!

The London Marathon this year set a world record for the number of finishers, with over 56,000 runners taking part, making the Royston Runners’ accomplishment part of a historic day. The club and its members can be immensely proud of how they represented their community and embraced the challenge with tenacity and joy.

Congratulations to every Royston Runner who took on the 2025 London Marathon either in person or virtually as well as the Manchester Marathon! Your dedication, spirit, and achievement in such demanding conditions are truly inspiring. The whole community celebrates your success and looks forward to cheering you on in future races.
