Royston Runners, you’ve outdone yourselves.
Our Quiz Night at the football club was pure chaos in the best possible way – pens flying, brains melting, snacks disappearing, and at least three people trying to pretend that their answer was correct, just a misspelling.
Massive thank you to everyone who turned up and pretended they “weren’t competitive at all” while death-staring the next table over.
The biggest shout-out goes to our superstar quiz masters, Kate and Fergus, who did an absolutely cracking job herding us through all the rounds. They survived dodgy team names, questionable answer spellings, and at least five rounds of “Are you sure that’s right?” with saint-like patience and top-tier banter.
As always, the Social team smashed the organisation and the quiz logistics like pros – and miracle of miracles, myself and Adam didnt get lost, managing to find the place without needing a search party.. You are all absolute legends. 🧭😂
The 2000s decade round started like a millennial fever dream. You could practically hear the confidence: “This is our TIME. We were there.” Three questions in, the vibe shifted to “Hang on… was that 2001, 2004, or just a fever dream from uni?” Faces dropped faster than a tempo run at mile 12. Turns out, remembering the 2000s is significantly harder than living through them. Who knew?
Then came the true masterpiece: the sports brand picture round. The room turned into a live-action advert. From all corners:
“I wear those trainers!”
“I literally own that top!”
“What do you mean that’s not Adidas?!”
Nearly everyone hurled their joker at that round like it was the last gel before the finish line – and for once, it actually paid off.
Huge congratulations to our champions, The Secret Seven, who somehow kept their heads, nailed the brands, and remembered just enough of the noughties to walk away with the glory. Top quizzing, top nonsense, fully deserved.
And we have to talk about the team names. We have never heard so many utterly ridiculous, wildly creative running-themed variations in one place. Half the fun was reading them out without cracking up.
We raised an amazing £719…. and that is down to each and everyone of you!
Thanks again to everyone who came, quizzed, laughed, and loudly argued over what year things happened.
Thanks again to everyone who came along – same time next year? Better start revising the 2010s now…
