This past weekend was truly a memorable one for Royston Runners as we proudly took over the Wimpole parkrun on both Saturday and Sunday, marking a key highlight in our 40th anniversary celebrations. Our club’s spirit was on full display as a team of dedicated volunteers cheered on runners of all ages and abilities with the warmth and enthusiasm that have defined Royston Runners for four decades as well as time keeping, scanning and marashalling the course

One of the most heartwarming moments came on Saturday when our founder member, Maurice Hill, celebrated his 80th birthday in the best possible way—by running alongside his son Graham and grandson Thomas. Seeing three generations of the Hill family sharing the course was a powerful reminder of the club’s rich heritage and the strong sense of community that continues to inspire us all. Maurice’s enduring passion for running and his commitment to the club have been foundational, and it was a privilege for everyone present to witness this special family milestone.

Sunday morning brought the Junior parkrun, and it was fantastic to see so many young runners out on the course, full of energy and enthusiasm. We love to support the younger generation of runners and hope to see some at The Crows or Royston Runners in the future.

On the same day, many of our members took on the challenge of the Bass Belle 10k. Despite the warm morning conditions, the team spirit was unwavering. Our runners pushed themselves hard and delivered an outstanding performance, culminating in Royston Runners proudly securing 1st Place Ladies Team and 1st Place Men’s Team trophies! These victories are a testament not only to the talent and dedication of our athletes but also to the supportive and motivating environment that the club fosters. Celebrating these wins together added an extra layer of excitement to our 40th birthday weekend.

This weekend of events was much more than just races and results—it was a celebration of community, perseverance, and the shared love of running that unites us all. From the volunteers who gave their time generously, to the runners who gave their all on the course, and the supporters who cheered every step of the way, everyone played a vital role in making this weekend a huge success.

As we reflect on this special milestone, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to every member, volunteer, and supporter who has contributed to Royston Runners over the years. Your passion, dedication, and friendship make this club what it is—a welcoming, vibrant, and inspiring community.

Here’s to many more years of running together, breaking personal bests, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. The journey continues, and we can’t wait to see what the next 40 years will bring!

Run strong, run proud, Royston Runners!
