Training
Every week we have a coach-led training session. These sessions are usually on a Thursday around Royston, however in the last Wednesday of every month this session is replaced by a track session at Ridlins Athletic Track in Stevenage.
Our training includes beginners’ runs, speedwork, club runs and long runs.
Club Runs
On Tuesdays, we have our club group runs, featuring nine different pace groups to suit everyone—from beginners to seasoned runners. Each group has its own dedicated and experienced group leader who brings enthusiasm, motivation, and local route knowledge to every run. Whether you’re looking to set a new personal best or just enjoy a friendly jog, we’ll match you with the perfect group for your pace and style.
Our group leaders do more than just set the pace—they create a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere that helps everyone feel supported and part of the team. They ensure the group sticks together, chats flow, and no one ever feels left behind or has to run solo. It’s all about running with friends, sharing the experience, and celebrating every step together.
New to the club? No worries! Check out our Running Groups page to learn more and get assigned to the group that fits you best. Our leaders and coaches are always ready to guide you, making sure every run is fun, safe, and fulfilling.
Join us on Tuesdays for more than just a run—it’s a chance to connect, improve, and enjoy the journey with an amazing community of runners!
During the summer months, our club runs take place along quiet country lanes and off-road trails and footpaths. In the winter, the evening sessions centre on the well-lit streets of Royston, returning to the surrounding countryside at weekends.
We use a system called CMC so all you need to do is book on there to join the session
Speedwork
Elevate your running with our dynamic, coach-led speedwork sessions every week! Typically held on Thursdays in Royston, these sessions are designed to push your limits, build explosive power, and boost your overall speed and endurance. Once a month, we take the challenge to the next level by moving the session to the track in Stevenage on a Wednesday—providing a fantastic change of scenery and the ideal environment for precision speed training.
Our expert coaches guide you through structured workouts tailored to all levels, focusing on technique, pacing, and performance gains. Whether you are targeting a personal best in a 5K or simply want to improve your running economy, these sessions offer the perfect blend of motivation and expertise. Expect to be challenged and supported as you train alongside fellow runners who share your goals.
Discover more about the benefits, session formats, and how you can get involved by visiting our Coached Sessions page. Step up your running game, achieve your goals faster, and experience the thrill of speedwork with the Royston Runners community!
Long Runs
Our members love to come together for informal yet energizing group runs on Saturday and Sunday morning. These weekend runs are a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, explore scenic routes, and connect with fellow runners in a relaxed and supportive setting. While not formal club events, they are well-organized through updates shared regularly on our Facebook page and in our weekly email newsletter, so you’ll always know where and when to join in.
Whether you’re aiming for a gentle jog, building endurance with a longer run, or simply looking for great company on your weekend miles, these runs offer something for everyone. It’s the perfect way to keep motivated outside of the weekday sessions and enjoy the camaraderie that makes our club truly special.
Joining a weekend run is a great way to meet new friends, discover new routes around Royston and the surrounding countryside, and maintain your training momentum—all while enjoying the flexibility of informal club running.
Park Run and coffee
Most weekends, members of Royston Runners come together to take on local Parkrun events as a united and enthusiastic group. Parkrun is a fantastic 5k timed run event held in parks across the country, providing an inclusive, friendly environment where runners of all levels can challenge themselves, improve fitness, and enjoy the outdoors. And at the end, coffee and cake and a good old catch up
